Important notice for patients of Seton Family Healthcare
January 7, 2021
I’m reaching out today to share the difficult news that the Seton Family Healthcare clinic is facing serious financial challenges that may impact your health care services.
After trying to work with RBC to come to an agreement, and resolve matters in a way that puts patients first, the bank is now forcing the clinic into bankruptcy proceedings.
I have retained legal counsel and I am hopeful that the Courts seriously consider the impacts of bankruptcy in the middle of global health crisis and how it will affect thousands of patients.
However, as per the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), I am required to provide this 90‐day notice of potential clinic closure. I want to assure you that the physicians at our clinic will continue to provide exceptional medical care and will do everything we can to keep the clinic open.
If our legal efforts are not successful, we will provide you with information on how patient care will be transferred and how patient records will be maintained as per CPSA standards for Closing or Leaving a Medical Practice.
I understand that this information is difficult to hear in the middle of COVID‐19 and if you have questions about the potential clinic closure, you can enquire at the clinic.
On behalf of myself and the staff at our clinic, I want to assure you that I remain committed to your medical care and will do everything in my power to find a solution that preserves your access to vital health care services.
Dr. Adrian Anderton
We are a general family practice in south-east Calgary (formerly known as Cranston Family Healthcare and Cranston Medical, now combined), focusing on all forms of primary healthcare, ranging from minor ailments and illnesses to preventative medicine and complex-care management.
We offer same-day booking availability, but our family physicians focus on quality of life. In other words, we know your respiratory infection may be affecting your quality of life right now but we’re also thinking of you 5, 10 and even 15 years from now… what could affect you later in life? What are your risks? How do we keep you out of hospital and ER, not just now but in the future?
So rather than give you a script and send you out the door, we prefer that you have regular contact with a family doctor, someone who will take you on as a patient and see you for ‘preventative’ or rather 'early-detection' screening, which includes an annual check-up (complete physical) and maybe blood tests, ECG’s, colonoscopies, mammograms, pap smears, etc. depending on your age, current medical illnesses, as well as your family history.
But of course we’ll first treat your respiratory infection, or whatever ailment brings you through our doors…. We understand that sometimes you just need to see a doctor as soon as possible, so even if you’re attached to one family physician at our location, we’ll have doctors alternating shifts for same-day appointments, and if necessary we’ll arrange a follow-up with your regular doctor.
We believe in quality medical care with a logical, practical, and individual approach to each patient.. because no-one fits into a textbook definition of their particular illness, and although we know much more about the human body than Da Vinci did, he and Hippocrates and countless others have always viewed the human body with awe, respect and intrigue, and treated patients as human beings rather than illnesses.
