To all the patients of Seton Family Healthcare,
It is with a sad heart that I must inform you that the clinic no longer exists as you know it.
Just after I finished my last patient consult on April 1, the property manager walked in on behalf of my landlord and handed me a lease termination notice, and they immediately changed the locks.
As in my previous post, most of you should be aware of my ongoing legal situation with RBC that I’ve been trying for over 2 years to resolve amicably. This is something new, not currently involving RBC, and I’m taking advice I once received from my attorney to stick to the facts…
I have now discovered that another medical company had plans in place to immediately take over the current location, and 5 of my former physician colleagues at my clinic already had contracts in place earlier this year without my knowledge. On April 2, my staff were offered contracts for this new company, to start on Monday April 5.
Unfortunately, I have not been provided any access to the premises to obtain crucial patient information from my computers, or any patient faxes that came in over the weekend. I’m doing everything I possibly can to make sure there's zero interruption of patient care, however logistically possible that may be.
To my patients, I humbly ask for your patience, I’m still trying to figure out what to do, since I am without a physical location to see you in person. I have already reached out to my patients, and thankfully almost every one of you have signed up over the past year for Pomelo (formerly Health Myself), our virtual consult (secure email) system, and you would have already been notified.
To those who’ve already responded, thank you for the messages of support. I’ll keep you posted.
For those experiencing technical difficulties, please email email@example.com and either me, my wife Lindsay or my clinic manager Melanie will respond.
I'm still running around trying to find a place to practice from. I'll re-schedule some patients, and do virtual consults with the others. Please keep checking for secure email updates.
For the patients of my former colleagues, Dr Kevin Stafford, Dr Noreen O’Riordan, Dr Mark Devlin, Dr Asif Ejaz and Dr Aaron Hartley… I wish that I could provide everyone with more information, and that I didn’t have to relay this bizarre and unexpected turn of events in this manner.
Since I was not provided with any communication about their plans for succession, nor any phone/fax numbers or email addresses for you to contact them, I truly have no idea how they’ve set this up, but it is my belief that they will reach out to you individually to discuss their plans, if they haven’t already done so. I have no doubt that they will continue their excellent care of you and your family under new management.
I am truly sorry to everyone for the inconvenience. When I set up the clinic, after relocating from Cranston, my dream was for it to be a centre of medical excellence, and a beacon of hope and healing for the surrounding communities. When we couldn’t prevent sickness and disease, we would try to catch it early… but above all, Quality of Life was pursued and celebrated, treating people as human beings, regardless of race, religion, orientation and ideology, following an old medical principle attributed sometimes to Hippocrates, and sometimes to William Osler in the 1800’s… “to cure sometimes, to relieve often, and to comfort always.”
This was only able because of a team effort, with the most amazing and dedicated group of doctors, nurses and administrative staff, and I want to thank everyone for helping me fulfill my dream so that I could stand in front of my Creator one day, having accomplished something beautiful.
Above all, I am a man of faith, and I believe that the clinic belongs to God. It was the pinnacle of the past 20 years of my life, and my hope is that whoever has taken over that clinic space will continue the good work that the staff and physicians of Seton Family Healthcare set in motion.

We are a general family practice in south-east Calgary (formerly known as Cranston Family Healthcare and Cranston Medical, now combined), focusing on all forms of primary healthcare, ranging from minor ailments and illnesses to preventative medicine and complex-care management.
We offer same-day booking availability, but our family physicians focus on quality of life. In other words, we know your respiratory infection may be affecting your quality of life right now but we’re also thinking of you 5, 10 and even 15 years from now… what could affect you later in life? What are your risks? How do we keep you out of hospital and ER, not just now but in the future?
So rather than give you a script and send you out the door, we prefer that you have regular contact with a family doctor, someone who will take you on as a patient and see you for ‘preventative’ or rather 'early-detection' screening, which includes an annual check-up (complete physical) and maybe blood tests, ECG’s, colonoscopies, mammograms, pap smears, etc. depending on your age, current medical illnesses, as well as your family history.
But of course we’ll first treat your respiratory infection, or whatever ailment brings you through our doors…. We understand that sometimes you just need to see a doctor as soon as possible, so even if you’re attached to one family physician at our location, we’ll have doctors alternating shifts for same-day appointments, and if necessary we’ll arrange a follow-up with your regular doctor.
We believe in quality medical care with a logical, practical, and individual approach to each patient.. because no-one fits into a textbook definition of their particular illness, and although we know much more about the human body than Da Vinci did, he and Hippocrates and countless others have always viewed the human body with awe, respect and intrigue, and treated patients as human beings rather than illnesses.
